Colleen's Cozy Cabin is set high in the mountains of south-central Colorado, in the shadow of the awe-inspiring 14,000-foot peaks of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. You'll never find a better place to commune with nature. Whether it's active fun with some of the best hiking and whitewater rafting nearby or a serene getaway, our cabin offers a variety of vacation pleasures.
Comfort with a view you'll remember.
Colleen's Cozy Cabin sleeps eight comfortably with two first-floor bedrooms and a beautiful loft that sleeps two and has a walkout view of the Continental Divide. (There is a futon in the living room for extra guests.) A full deck and well-placed windows let you enjoy a view of the area's several 14,000-foot high mountain peaks. Nearby, you'll have access to some of the country's best whitewater rafting and kayaking along the Arkansas River. Check out the historic Sand Dunes National Park. Go golfing at Crestone's golf course. Horseback riding is available too. Finish your day with a natural hot springs soak. Wilderness surrounds the cabin, and you'll see plenty of birds and wildlife.
The cabin is equipped with a television, VCR and DVD player along with a selection of movies on tape.

There are several wonderful hiking opportunities around Crestone.
The hike to the lake is around 9 miles round trip and begins at 9,200 feet and ends at 11,600 feet. The trail is a long day trip, but definitely worth it. The lake is surrounded by 13,000 and 14,000 ft peaks, with a waterfall at the east end of the lake. Go along the north edge of the lake to the top of the falls for an incredible view. Trail is access for 14ers Kit Carson and Challenger Point. Willow Lake also has good fishing for cutthroat and brook trout. Access: Take Hwy 17 north to Moffat: turn east on the Crestone Road (T Road) to Crestone. At center of town, turn right on Galena Street and continue on dirt road to trail head. South Crestone Lake trail is straight ahead while Willow Lake trail is to the right (cross creek).
South Crestone Lake
The hike to the lake is approximately 6 miles round trip. Numerous scenic views as the trail ascends through aspen and fir trees before reaching the timberline below the lake. Access: Take Hwy 17 north to Moffat: turn east on the Crestone Road (T Road) to Crestone. At center of town, turn right on Galena Street and continue on dirt road to trail head. South Crestone Lake trail is straight ahead while Willow Lake trail is to the right (cross creek).
North Crestone Lake
North Crestone Trail (FS trail 744) is 12 miles round trip. It is a good day hike from the campground and excellent for extended backpacking with connections to Trails 747 and 746. Trail 744 ends at North Crestone lake. Access: Take Hwy 17 north to Moffat: turn east on the Crestone Road (T Road) to Crestone. Continue through center of town to North Crestone Campground. The trail begins at the end of the road at the east end of the campground.
Cottonwood Creek Trail
The trail that follows Cottonwood Creek up to Cottonwood Lake. Trail also leads to access for 14ers Crestone Peak and Crestone Needle. Cottonwood Lake lies at 12,310 ft and is about a 9-mile hike from the trailhead. Access: Take Hwy 17 north to Moffat: turn east on the Crestone Road (T Road) to Crestone. Continue toward Crestone, then turn right at the entrance to Baca Grande Chalets Grants. From this point, continue on the road as it turns to dirt to the trailhead, approximately 5.4 miles from the entrance.
Lake Como Trail (Mt. Blanca approach)
Long, arduous trail/jeep road to Lake Como at 11,740 ft. This trail also is the standard approach to 14ers Mt. Blanca, Little Bear and Ellingwood Point. The steep road climbs along Chokecherry Canyon, then follows Holbrook Creek to Lake Como. Lake Como is approximately 5 miles from the trailhead. Access: Take Hwy 160 east to the junction of Hwy 160 and Colorado 150. Go north on Hwy 150 3.2 miles to the dirt road heading in the northeast direction. Follow the dirt road as far as you can stand it - the 4WD road to Lake Como is nationally known as Colorado's toughest road.
Wheeler Geological Area
Unusual formations of pinnacles, spires and domes of volcanic rock crumbled and eroded by wind and water. Shadows and colors along with light conditions make this a photographers paradise. Motorized vehicles and mountain bikes are not permitted inside Wheeler. Access: Take Hwy 160 west to town of South Fork, then head north on Hwy 149 towards Creede. After passing through Wagon Wheel Gap, look for FS road 600, also called Pool Table Road. Turn right on FS 600 and follow road 13 miles toward Wheeler. Motorized vehicle traffic is not permitted inside Wheeler.
There are 11 peaks located in the San Luis Valley area that are above 14,000 ft. in elevation. They are concentrated in 4 different areas - Crestone group (5), Blanca Group (4), San Luis Peak (1), and Culebra Peak (1).

Whitewater Rafting Information:
A 20 minute drive north on U.S. 285 (about an hour total time from Colleen's Cozy Cabin) brings you to the Arkansas River where you will find several whitewater rafting guides and the Royal Gorge.
$130 per night or $800 per week plus a $40 cleaning fee.
A minimum two-night stay is required.

A 50 percent deposit is required, due 10 days after your reservation is made. The remaining balance is due two weeks before you arrive. A refund will be given with a 14-day notice. No refunds will be issued because of weather conditions. All cancellations are subject to a $50 handling charge.
Personal check, money order, cashier's check or credit card payment through PayPal is accepted. There will be a $50 fee for returned checks.
Please enjoy our cabin and leave it as you found it. A minimum fee of $50 will be charged for excessive cleaning. Sorry, no pets, hunters or smoking.
