DESCRIPTION:
Imagine sitting under the stars with absolute peace, trail riding to an outdoor cookout, sitting around a campfire with music and friends, hiking with the essence of pine through timbered trails, viewing an elk herd as you sit on the back of a horse, learning the skills to become an avid rider, engaging in yoga from atop rimrock with picturesque views, relaxing to a massage. You can do all of this here at Runamuk!Your one-stop Montana experience. The place where guests are welcome to customize their own vacation.

Once the site of one of the largest polled Hereford ranches in the United States, Runamuk, a beautiful 18,000 acre, privately-owned ranch, offers various activities to ensure an experience of a lifetime. Opening our doors to a small number of guests, we are able to offer you individual attention in as many or as few activities as you desire. Located 50 miles north of Billings, Montana, we offer warm, attentive hospitality in a relaxing, rejuvenating environment.

Our combination of mountains, blue sky, and pure pine air presents nature at its finest. Let our casual elegance assure you a fresh perspective in mountain hospitality.

RANCH EXPERIENCES:
Relive the life of a cowboy. Through each of the five generations, Runamuk has depended on cattle and the ranching industry for its livelihood. We have now opened the doors to those who wish to partake in the ranching, cowboy, country kind-of-life. Learn to throw a rope from the ground. Fine-tune your riding skills or, if you are a beginning rider, learn the safety, skills and confidence to successfully ride. Runamuk's horse program fosters a bond between horse and rider. Once you are comfortable with your horse, we can head out and cover some country. (For those with their own horse back home, an equine sports massage therapist offers lessons.) We have plenty of riding and activities to satisfy even the most avid of horsemen and women! Enjoy genuine, warm hospitality in the tradition of the old west. During your stay, you can also experience various aspects of ranching. Feel free to bring your own horse.

Watch our schedule of events and overlap your stay with a group trail ride, cattle drive, clinic or dance. Contact us, tell us your interests and what you're looking for, and we'll plan a trip to suit your needs. See a sample schedule on our website.

DINING:
Whether you're here to eat heart-healthy or kick your diet aside, your tastebuds won't be without. HISTORY:
The home ranch first came into the family's possession in 1903 when (Grandpa) Bill Spidel and the owner, A.B. LaMott, formed a partnership and bought 1500 head of cattle. In 1912 LaMott died and Bill bought out his interest. In the years that followed Bill purchased abandoned homesteads and railroad sections. He married (Grandma) Hazel Roberts in 1917 and in 1920 her parents bought Mrs. LaMott's remaining interest in the ranch.

In 1920 Bill acquired the Grand Champion Polled Hereford bull at the National Livestock Show in Des Moines, Iowa. This was the foundation of the largest herd of Polled Hereford cattle in the United States. Bill was fond of saying "The Devil has horns but cattle don't need em." The 5th generation is on the ranch raising commercial cattle and offering western hospitality to those wishing to enjoy a unique experience.
