In the tradition of Mount LeConte Lodge in the Great Smoky Mountains, Raven's Crest is designed to offer you top of the world views and an unsurpassable wilderness experience. At Raven's Crest, however, you can drive your car right to the very top of the Plott Balsam Mountains and stay in the extreme comfort of a quaint, brand new custom built log home.

At an amazing elevation of 5200 feet, Raven's Crest offers you the most breath taking views of almost the entire range of the Great Smoky Mountains to the west. Right off of the deck to the east you will be eye to eye with the top of Waterrock Knob and a vast expanse of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Only a short hike leads you to a spectacular sunset point.

Description/Amenities:
Raven's Crest is a quaint 680 square foot post and beam cabin with cathedral ceilings. The open floor plan includes a living room (with a full sized fold out futon sleeper sofa), a kitchen, and a dining room. The cozy living area includes a Vermont Castings gas log fireplace for warmth and comfort. The cabin also has one private bedroom with a queen sized bed and a bathroom with an oversized soaker tub and custom handmade Mexican tile work. Over 400 square feet of covered decks wrap around two sides of the house, giving you spectacular views of both the sunrise and the sunset!

Raven's Crest is located on over ninety acres of pristine park-like land including two streams, a 150 foot water fall, and hiking trails that will take you up to the summit of Black Rock at an elevation of 5800 feet. Black Rock offers a 360 degree view from the Great Smokies to Cold Mountain to the Nantahala Gorge. This property offers some of the only access to this spectacular hiking destination. The property is extremely secluded as it is bordered by a 1500 acre tract of land owned by The Nature Conservancy.

  • This retreat is very remote and can be reached by a well maintained five mile gravel road.

    Useful Items To Bring:
  • Bug repellent, although the bugs are generally not a problem.
  • Warm clothing; the temperature generally runs about 10 degrees cooler than Asheville due to the high elevation. You can also check the current conditions at weather.com.
  • Extra towels for rafting excursions in Cherokee, for use at the creek, or in the yard. Towels provided are not to be removed from the house.
  • Cameras, binoculars and a telescope - if you have one!

    The Raven's Crest is available for nightly and weekly rental from March 1 through January 1. The nightly is $125 (Special rate of $120 through the end of the summer!) with a 3 night minimum. Stay six nights, and get the seventh night free! Weekly rates are $750 (Special rate of $720 through the end of the summer!). Inquire about rates for extended stays at Raven's Crest.
